Schleepy

I didn’t have all that late a night last night. However I am very sleepy today.

On a completely different topic I went to a work lunch at Fast Eddies. They service was snarky, it was easily 30 degrees in the place and the food was unremarkable. I will not be rushing back.

Lesson for the day - heat and sleepiness are a bad mix.

Farken Ace Lineup

The night of my launch we are also going to have a farken ace showcase. At this stage we will have Mat Ward and Maxine playing which is a damn good start.

Lesson for the day - it will be farken ace.

Almost Shopping

I managed to avoid buying a Jay and Silent Bob comic at lunch for two simple reasons.

I have no money.
I have never really been that much of a comic fan.
Kevin Smith has enough of my money for now.
I am playing to buy Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back on DVD in a month or two.

Lesson for the day - make that four simple reasons.

Appropriate Recognition

I think that people who just excel in Australia (such as the fellows who gave Mormons hash cookies and the people who made the “single mum with a litter” ad) should ge given some sort of award in recognition.

At first I though they should just be called Legends of Australia. On second thoughts they should be called Dead Set Legends of Australia.

How groovy would that be? Mark O’Meara DSLoA

Lesson for the day - I won’t hold my breath.

A Blast From the Past

Spaceboy just called me. This was a bit of a surprise and a major fucking treat. I haven’t seen him on almost two years.

He told me that he was planning to just come to the Yak and surprise me but I hadn’t posted any dates while he was here.

Lesson for the day - always happy to hear from spaceboy.

Finally, the album cover

Lesson for the day - all good things take time.

Freeway is Falling

It was always going to be touch and go getting the train this morning.

Once we were on the freeway it just stopped. We spent about three times as long as we normally do on fifteen hundred metres of road.

We missed the train.

Lesson for the day - you can’t win ‘em all, even on Friday.

End of the Slather

Alex’s Open Slather has been going for over two years and I have, by and large, really enjoyed it.

Sadly Alex finishes up in two weeks, I think that it is just too much to do beyond a point. I am amazed that he has kept it up for so long given that it goes until 1 in the morning every single Thursday.

While his musical tastes are quite different to mine I will be sorry to see him go, he ran a good night.

Someone else will take over so at least the night will go on. It won’t be the same.

Lesson for the day - they never are.

Back on Track

Yesterday morning I spent a few minutes getting the settings on my guitar so that I had the best sound I could manage. Then I marked those settings with a permanent texta.

All of this paid off at the Yak last night. The guitar sounded good and I was feeling quite confident again.

Having Viv and Caroline there helped also. While the rest of the audience (all eight of them) warmed to me by the end of four songs, it really helps to start with some people paying attention.

Daggy Songs

There are some songs that I know are daggy but can’t help but like anyway.

Some good examples are The Tide is High, American Pie and the Don’t Look Back In Anger.

Lesson for the day - there are worse things than daggy.
