As Time Goes By

31 07 2002

I decided that for mental health reasons I just had to leave the building and get A Little Something.

Clearly a coke, honkey bun or chocolate were out. Now I am sure they do sell other stuff but I’ve never had to work out where before this week.

However I did have vague memories of a place that does banana smoothies. Perhaps not overtly health food but not on the forbidden list either. So off I trotted.

It was gone.

Lesson for the day - it seemed like just yesterday it was there.

One Mistake At a Time

I keep thinking that it is Thursday.

That just can’t be a good sign.

Lesson for the song - a calendar is good for your sanity.

Insult to Injury

The only thing worse than a really long corporate briefing is one that actually runs overtime into lunch.

Lesson for the day - only a fool outstays their welcome.

Poison In The Well

Choice is a fabulous thing, especially when you are talking about flavours of ice cream.

But it also means that if you shit people they will just choose to go deal with someone else and you might not get a second chance.

Personally I am especially vindictive on this front. I would far sooner invest a little time or money in a unknown quantity that go back to somewhere that has actually stuffed me around.

Lesson for the day - things are not going well when you first impression is also your last.

New Clothes

When I was talking to Kristen last night I was waffling on about the faults I percieve in people I barely know.

It’s easy to see other people’s faults and so hard to understand how they don’t see them.

It’s also hard to see your own clearly. Like everyone I have a list of things that I don’t do so well. However I strongly suspect that other people see wholly different faults in me than I do.

But by and large people don’t mention it because they are my friends and are not interested in my flaws.

Lesson for the day - bless your friends’ cotton socks.

Boulevards to Hell

It is safe to say that this last week before holidays is proving to be really frustrating.

I do wonder if I am simply less tolerant because I am so close to holidays. It’s a scary thought because if that is the case then I am just making my own life difficult which is, of course, goofy.

Lesson for the day - play nice people.

Broken Record

Sometimes when I am practicing a song I won’t really get to it sounding any good until the end of the song.

So I play it again and the whole sounds better.

It struck me that instead of playing four songs a day I should perhaps try practicing two songs twice. I
could play the same song four times but I think that the changes of me going plain potty would be good.

Lesson for the day - do what works for you.

Cliche of The Moment

Less is more.

Lesson for the day - take a closer look.

Leaps and Bounds

Well Kristen and I ventured into the wider world of open mics last night as planned.

On the downside I suspect that even my toenails are a bit smokey still.

On the upside Kristen was just great. The good sound mix certainly helped but the largest part was that she has improved quite noticably since I saw her play at the showcase a month ago.

This is a doubly good trick as I was really impressed by how much she had improved at the showcase.

Lesson for the day - when someone picks up speed they are hard to stop.

Modest, Moi?

Just standing on a moving train without the benefit of something to hold onto is a minor achievement.

Managing to write blog entries at the same time is just clever.

Lesson for the day - sometimes you do have to say so yourself.
