Real Rain

31 12 2002

Recently there have been a few spots of rain that have helped bring the temperature down a couple of degrees. However the rain we have having right now is real solid rain. Not a storm or bucketing down but just good solid rain.

Lesson for the day - you know you are getting older when you welcome the rain.

Happy New Year

31 12 2002

In what is becoming a tradition here in the west it is raining on New Year’s Eve. Actually, aside from the impact on the street party, the rain is very welcome. The heat was driving me dememted.

Two Thousand and Two, which started about two weeks ago, is all but over. Damn, that went quickly.

Anyhow I hope all three of my holiday time readers (down from five when everyone is at work) have a lovely time tonight and hopefully for the whole year ahead.

Lesson for the day - a year feels like a week, but what a week.

Back at Work

30 12 2002

Actually I am just here for a few hours to do some stuff that just doesn’t work using the laptop at home.

It’s not so bad being here when I know that I can go home soon.

Lesson for the day - back at work for real next week.

Damn Heat

29 12 2002

On Christmas day it came close to raining on me as I stood outside and barbequed the meat to within an inch of its life. However on lots of other days it has ranged from kind of hot to damn hot. Today is especially nasty, hot and windy.

Happily when you close all the curtains at our place it is quite cool inside. You just don’t want to leave. Given we are almost completely out of cash, staying home was likely anyway.

Lesson for the day - even horrible weather has its place.

Cabaret

29 12 2002

Last night we went to see the Melbourne production of Cabaret with the woman from Blue Heelers and the fella from Human Nature in it.

Although I am no fan of musicals it was a bit of fun.

Lesson for the day - not all musicals are utterly awful.

Staying Up Past Your Bedtime

29 12 2002

The world kind of stops between Christmas and New Year and it’s no bad thing. Happily we have almost two weeks off and pretty much no plans for the time.

That means lots of sleeping in and staying up late. As a teenager staying up late seemed a great luxury, in my early twenties it seemed unavoidable, in my late twenties it was a great luxury to get to bed early.

Now it seems to have swung back to staying up late being an indulgence.

Lesson for the day - writing about sleep is a lot less interesting that you think it might be.

Fizzy Red Tablets

27 12 2002

It turns out that fizzt red tablets are my friend.

I don’t know why I am surprised.

Lesson for the day - I may never have bounce as such but being upright is good start.

Waking Up Tired

27 12 2002

Since stoppoing work for the year I have been even more tired than ever.

This is just ridiculous. Certainly I had sleep to catch up on but this can only last for so long.

Lesson for the day - it’s hard to control how tired you feel.

Not Lizzy

25 12 2002

And a merry bloody Christmas to all. Now get off the internet and go deal with real people, that’s where the action is on Christmas day.

Lesson for the day - somedays belong in the real world.

Bullies

24 12 2002

This shit is both unbelievable and very easy to believe.

We seem to have come to a point where being a bully is applauded and seen as strong. Driven by the fear of nutters who could potentially kill hundreds of white people we seem more than willing to empower the worst kinds of people to keep us all scared and quiet.

Lesson for the day - security is more than taking scissors off people.
