I think a few basic rules are needed for being home alone as a matter of course.
So I will start with two.
1. No chocolate biscuits will be eaten when Nicky is not home.
2. No icecream will be eaten when Nicky is not home.
3. Soft drink will not be kept at home (not that it ever was)
Lesson for the day - I really cannot be allowed any flexibility on issues like this.

Shortly Sean will have won our first game of chess.
I figured that he would wipe the board with me in about 5 moves. In the end I think it will be more like seven or eight. I think that’s a reason to be pleased.
Lesson for the day - any day above ground is a good day.

I have only ever listened to Neil Finn’s first album a half a dozen times but I figured a rainly kind of Monday was a good time to give it another spin.
I am up to Sinner and I think that it’s safe to say it was more than time.
Lesson for the day - there’s no much music so close to the cd player.

I am told there is some scientific reason why people feel so much better after there is rain. Maybe there is science to it but it feels like it might just be magic.
If it were not for it being so cold before I would have just sat on the patio and listened to it for hours.
It was the most mundane yet compelling sound I have heard in a long time.
Lesson for the day - there is more to the atmosphere than meets the eye.

Fiona Menzies wrote this in to The Age this morning
“Here’s an idea for people who assert a 50-50 shared parenting is not unsettling for the children. Why don’t the children live in the family house and the parents can move in an out each week”
Lesson for the day - changing the names next to the players can make all the difference.

I am still a bit unsettled but that is ok, I will get over it.
Lesson for the day - all genuine change is something a bit different.

Yesterday we kicked goals helping Dad with his clean up.
We are not there yet but the end is now something you can imagine without a good dose of mind-altering sunstances.
Lesson for the day - not only quick wins are worth it.

I never expect much from James Bond flicks. Criticising them for being silly is a little like writing into the Green Guide about all the homosexuals on Queer as Folk.
But the last one really was really really boring.
I didn’t expect meaning or a change of life. But I did hope for a few minutes of entertainment in there.
Lesson for the day - good moviesd are hard to find at the video store.

The Corporation has made many things available to me.
A good wage, lots of laughs, and lots of nice people. But finally, and most importantly, my freedom.

I was thinking about a laptop for when I go back to study next year. Laptops are always emotional purchases, no-one ever gets the use they think they will from one. At least they never move it about as much as they think they will.
But they are groovy and feel like an indulgence. Four grand for something to take notes on is too much.
So I bought a keyboard for Nicky’s palm pilot. She doesn’t use it and it will more than do the job for me. It only cost a couple of hundred dollars and will do the job nicely.
It is also lighter and has better battery life than a fully blown laptop.
Lesson for the day - the lesser of two gadgets is still pretty cool.
