One Eyed

31 08 2003

Nicky’s mum woke up one morning recently and discovered that the has lost all sight in one eye. She in not a young woman and has been sick but this was still quite a surprise to everyone involved.

And her sight in not coming back according to the doctors.

But she seems to be taking it very well, better than I think I would. She says that getting upset won’t change it back.

Lesson for the day - hard times often bring out the best in people.

Moment In The Sun

31 08 2003

A small brown and white pusscat came and sat between the computer and my face and decided that she wanted to be patted and generally made a fuss of. Which seems pretty reasonable so I did for a little while at least.

But then I decided to stop and she decided I shouldn’t but we agreed fairly quickly that she should perhaps just go spend some time in her basket.

Lesson for the day - pusscats are quite gentle in their affections.

Back Of A Timetable

Dear Bert,

There are those within our ranks who have spoken out on the issue of women taking an active role but I think thay our Margaret is well on the way to proving herself.

It seems she eluded capture, collected our cargo and headed off alone north on horseback.

I hope to catch up with her, as no doubt she intended, as this train arrives at her destination in only a few small hours.

I know we call it the brotherhood but some of our women just perform so well that I for one have no regrets that we let them be involved.

Over Time, About Right For Budget

31 08 2003

Well after a couple of weeks of discussion and work the pop idol store is now open.

It’s not perfect but hopefully it will do the job ok.

Lesson for the day - if you sell something you are doing well.

The Quiet World Of Blogging

31 08 2003

My little world is changing in little and big ways. The big ways are obvious so I’ll spend a minute on a little one.

My blog world is slowing down. The people I read have big thing happening, real world things happening, and that doesn’t add much to their blogging routine. The quality is still there but the quantity takes a real hit.

And it’s not a big issue but it does mean that a feel a little less connected to a bunch of people. And it will will swing back as things do. But for now it’s kind of slow and I kind of wish it wasn’t.

Lesson for the day - even when it’s all about other people it’s really all about me.

Nothing

30 08 2003

I really just logged on the check email for the pop idol shop development.

I thought I might see what else there is to read while I was here. Absolutely nothing it would seem.

Lesson for the day - it seems the million monkeys do not have a million stories.

The Wired Age

30 08 2003

We have a cordless phone much like everyone else in the Western world. It is even one of the more swish digital ones.

Having said that it was just a bit flaky, sometimes it would just forget about the base-station and often it would be cutting in and out.

So we have gone back to a corded phone, a little less sexy but you can have a conversation on it.

Lesson for the day - sometimes you like to make a connection.

Charting

30 08 2003

Out of idle curiosity I looked at mp3.com.au to see how my songs were doing. I don’t expect much but I still wonder.

I am 15 in Folk which is nothing to complain about when you sound like I do. Folk to Country Music gets about 60 listens a months but doesn’t chart at all. Because it is more than 60 days old. This is fair enough I suppose, they want to encourage new material and soon enough I will have some.

Lesson for the day - you can’t expect to be rewarded for what you don’t do.

One End To The Other

30 08 2003

Seek sends me heaps of stuff including this job in funerals.

Aside from the fact that it will be a little while yet until I go back to work and am planning to study I did spend several seconds thinking it might be something I could do.

Lesson for the day - you never know what you have never considered.

Nurse Betty

30 08 2003

The last in our current batch of $2 rentals.

It started well with obvious references to Pulp Fiction and some clever dialogue. And the end was not bad.

The middle dragged a bit.

Lesson for the day - it can be hard to be interesting for 107 minutes, I can’t manage it for 10.7.
