Hoonenanny

31 01 2004

Just out of curiosity I looked up what a hootenanny is.

It is an informal folk music performance often with audience participation.

Sound like a bit of fun :-)
Lesson for the day - it is amazing the words you don’t quite know the meaning of.

Away Games

31 01 2004

If you are away from your regular computer and want to write something for your farkenace blog go to farkenace.com and the dog will be able to help.

Honest.

Lesson for the day - dogs help you find your way.

Post Script

31 01 2004

I forgot to mention that I saw Anna-Leisa and a friend of her’s at the Yak also the other night. They played right after Johnn and sounded really nice although perhaps a little loud for my delicate folk sensibilities.

Lesson for the day - I always manage to leave something out.

On Track

30 01 2004

Well I am all enrolled and have my standard utterly awful photo on my student card. I have my parking permit and I got a bit of every single form I filled in wrong.

All in all it was pretty ordinary enrollment.

Lesson for the day - there are no surprises and little joy in paperwork.

I Went, I Played

30 01 2004

I went to the Yak last night and there was quite a good crowd last night including some familiar and friendly faces.

I played Ringo, Row Row Row Your Boat, Slow Motion, and It’s Not You (It’s Me). Then Stalk whipped up the small crowd to get me to play Dolly.

Dolly.

They stamped their little feet and carried on. I am sure they all thought they were in for a treat. That’s the crowd mentality :-)
So I played it. And it was awful. And it served them right.

All in all I had a good night and am glad I went.

Lesson for the day - people should not always get what they ask for.

Not Everybody Loves Strings

30 01 2004

Last night at the Yak there was a fellow who had put 16 weight strings on his newly made guitar and was unhappy with the sound. As well he might have been I should add, I don’t know if it was the strings but it didn’t sound at all good.

But he was going off. Fucking musicians always think they need 16 weight strings. Martin and Maton don’t know a damn thing about strings and ship all guitars with 16 weight strings. That’s not how guitars work. Each guitar has only one gauge of string that will work best for it and people should establish what that is and never vary from it. Musicians are all fucking fools in this country. He was not going to make any more guitars for people on account of all of the above.

I shit you not, it went on for at least ten minutes.

I bought new strings yesterday. I wasn’t game to tell him that that for fear of another outburst.

Lesson for the day - other people’s passion can be a bit odd.

Budgies

30 01 2004

Finn will be in the Budgies room which is for newborns to two. It is kind of basic compared to the rooms for the other kids but then I suppose they don’t actually do anything like as much.

The centre has three ages groups and a kindergarten in the building so he should be able to go there until school if all goes well.

I am going to ring them soon and arrange for his orientation. He might have O Week the week before I do.

Lesson for the day - he doesn’t look like a budgie, yet.

A Place For The Funster

30 01 2004

Well the child care place we liked most called us and have a place for the Funster on Mondays and Thursday which is a Good Thing Indeed.

And while it is not cheap it is nothing like as expensive as places in the city.

So that is a weight off both our minds, all I need to do now is get into the right tutorials so that I can pick him up on time.

Lesson for the day - child care is less scary than you imagine.

Photo Day

30 01 2004

Today I have to head off and actually enroll which means cash and, more importantly, a photo that I will have to carry around for three years.

I am not sure if I should even attempt to smile for the camera, it often just makes me look creepy. Or if I don’t smile I just look like a scary fucker.

Lesson for the day - there is more to photos than cheese.

Paper Work Will Kill Us All

29 01 2004

Today was a day of paperwork. Nicky did her tax and some government forms. I did some forms and associated nonsense for Uni. I drove around and delivered some things and picked others up.

There is a reason why this is the sort of thing we normally put off.

Lesson for the day - paper work is the hardest work of all.
