Well tomorrow I wander off to Geelong for my first day of lectures. I have one at 9am (the barbarity of it all), a two hour tutorial later in the morning and another lecture at 5pm. the long and the short of it is that I will be there all damn Monday and all of every Monday.

Still it should be a bit interesting. I have a drink bottle, muesli bars and barely sugars in my satchel. The palm pilot is charged and ready. That’s about all I need by way of preparations I imagine.

Lesson for the day - the night before school is always a bit exciting.

We have had a quiet sort of day and that was, I think, just what the doctor ordered.

We even braved the supermarket with the Funster. We had been just sending one of us to the supermarket since early efforts were not at all successful. However today he did ok even if he wasn’t super-happy about it all.

Lesson for the day - Sundays are good days for a little adventure.

Our “good” dvd player, the one with surround and all, has just stopped recognising discs.

Clearly this sucks.

I am looking for an answer online but chances are good that it will need to go for a service.

Lesson for the day - damn black magics

It strikes me that I have heaps of Ani DiFranco’s material. Not all of it by a long shot but heaps all the same. I think I have four double albums and four single albums.

But the sad truth is that while she does a great live show I cannot really get into most of the recordings. Much of it is abstract and jazzy and other bits just too jarring for my taste. I do appreciate that this makes me a heathen but that’s just how it is.

Lesson for the day - sometimes you just have to go with what you do like rather than what you should like.

We were watching this things on the telly called 7th Heaven just to kill some time.

It is probably the worst thing I have seen on any screen in years and years.

Just thought I’d mention it.

Lesson for the day - indiana could write better dialogue.

While we were at the Ani concert Fig and Fee looked after the Funster for us. I should also add that Fee made us dinner which was very welcome as it was entrirely possible that we were just not going to have time for it otherwise.

Anyhow we left him with them for the evening and they assure us that he slept right through the whole experience which is good. We would have felt terrible if he had been Mr Fractious.

Lesson for the day - it’s nice to know the Funster can go visiting on his own sometimes.

Last night we went to see Ani DiFranco thanks to a generous Christmas present to Nicky and I. Part of the present was also Fig and Fiona looking after the Funster but more about that later.

The Ani show was really good. It was just here and a procession of guitars. Certainly the had different sounds to one another and some songs probably required different tunings. But I think that Nicky nailed the reason for changing the guitar after every song, Ani just whacks the strings so hard that they probably need a retune after ever song.

But it was a great show and she is a master performer.

Lesson for the day - people are the top of their professions sometimes richly desserve to be there.

Well I went to see that film. I really liked Desperado and I could see value is El Mariachi. I quite liked Spy Kids and particularly liked Dusk Til Dawn.

But this one was awful. The movement of camera made me feel quite ill. I had no idea what was happening most of the time.

There were a few groovy slow motion type shooting at things shots but that was about it. I nearly left about an hour in but thought it might look up.

It did.

Lesson for the day - sometimes good directors make bad films.

Tonight we are off to Ani courtesy of Fig, Rad, Andy and Fee. The Funster will be spending a few hours with Fig and Fee while we are out so hopefully he behaves.

But for now the Funster is at child care and I have no pressing commitments. I might go and see Once Upon A Time In Mexico before I pick the boy up. I feel like I should probably do something productive with this time but on the other hand it would be nice to just have a few hours just for me.

Lesson for the day - even new habits can be hard to break.
