Riding With Dogs
6 01 2006Today I finally went out an bought a thing called a Walky Dog which attaches to a bike under the seat and is basically a rod out the side which holds a short lead for a dog to walk or run beside you.
Previously when riding with dogs I have just held the lead in my hand which gives me more control over them but does mean that when they take off it pulls at the handlebars which can be a problem.
I have taken both Indiana and EmmyLou out with this thing and it works so long as they are calm. If either sees another dogs and really pulls them the bike pretty quickly goes out from under me which has its moments of being exciting. However I have adapted by only riding at speeds where it doesn’t matter much if this happens.
I am hoping the will be better about all of this as we practice but I guess only time (and the odd fall) will tell.
Lesson for the day - dogs enjoy running much more than I do.

Wow. I think you are quite brave. If I tried this with the Invisible one I would be up a tree in no time at all.
PS I have found the bear and the instruments but no wiggle cows. Maybe I could meet Nicky back in town next week?
that sounds like a great idea.
