From All Sides

30 06 2006

I was pleased to only be working in the morning today since everyone gets a bit mental towards the end of the day.

All the same it was constant I am just so glad to be home where it is nice and quiet.

Lesson for the day - if all those voices don’t drive you mad at least they get you ready for what it will be like when you are.

Over One Hundred

30 06 2006

Well today Last Mad Puppy went over 100 entries. Admittedly almost half of them are from me but with any luck that will change with the next hundred.

Lesson for the day - it’s nice when people start talking.

Saved By Singstar

29 06 2006

With a movie and pizza and a whole nine hours to survive today with the kids was pretty tiring. Happily they love a bit of singstar and that got us through the last three hours quite happily.

Lesson for the day - good dumb fun goes a long way (and thankfully or a long time)

Toasty

29 06 2006

My feet are lovely and warm in these socks today.

Just as well since I actually have to work for nine hours which, needless to say, is a bit of a shock to my slack system.

Lesson for the day - warm is good.

I Don’t Want To Be Another Mystery

28 06 2006

I just thought I’d say hello to the other five readers. Not the five who pop up and say stuff but the other five who just read, bless their cotton socks, and say nothing.

Of course I’d prefer to hear from folk but all the same it’s nice that people are interested enough to stop by and read bits and bobs from my life. I notice on last mad puppy that many more people view every thread than take part and Nicky tells me this is pretty standard.

Anyhow a big hello to you mysterious characters.

Lesson for the day - every little performance needs an audience.

Think Pink

28 06 2006

While was collecting my updated glasses I dropped the ones with the pink lenses and old prescription in to get new lenses.

I really like the frames and figure it doesn’t hurt to have a backup pair. I was going to get slightly green lenses so go with the frames and to be useful on bright days and for driving.

However at the last moment, swayed by the comic potential of rose coloured glasses, I went with a soft pink instead. It always seems to give people such amusement to ask me if i see the world better through rose coloured glasses and it seems a shame to deny them this worthwhile gag.

Lesson for the day - some colours work on different wavelengths.

Arthur And The Sith

28 06 2006

I try not to just post links to things and say “go look at this because it’s funny”.

However you should go look at this because it is funny.

Darth Vader and the Holy Grail

Lesson for the day - something are too clever not to share.

Bright Eyes

28 06 2006

I was so very happy when the eye folk called me to tell me that my glasses were all ready for me to collect. It seems winter is not the best time to be wearing rose coloured glasses (muchless those two prescriptions ago) because the whole day seems to be dusky.

Now the world is crisp and bright and it’s hard to explain just how much that helps how I feel.

Lesson for the day - I can see Deirdre now Lorraine has gone.

There’s No N in Team

27 06 2006

If people could take five minutes to help Nicky with her assignment for uni (for which she needs a bunch of people working on a simple problem) that would be great.

Go click here.

Lesson for the day - group work is much easier with a group.

The Curse Of The Faithful Film

27 06 2006

Like most people I prefer to crap on about how much better the book was than the film and, as you would expect, for the most part that is true.

Just today I finished the book of The Graduate which was much celebrated before the film was made. I was a bit surprised to find that my local library has a 1964 copy of this 1963 American novel especially since the film didn’t come out until 1967. Back in the 60’s I would have thought that these parts were pretty sleepy but obviously that was not so true as I had imagined.

Anyhow there was nothing much new in the book. Not that it’s a bad book, far from it. But the film is just like the book, so much so that I really didn’t get anything new from reading it. No new information, no richer detail or interesting subplots. It’s still a good book, I am just sorry I got to it after the film.

The same was also very much the case when I read Ian McEwan’s Comfort of Strangers after I had seen the Paul Schrader film. Both utterly compelling but, for me, there was not much value in consuming both.

Lesson for the day - sometimes a book just needs acting out.
