Well I have changed Last Mad Puppy over to some different software and I thought I might see how it went. The new format is pretty much a place to post about what you read, listen to and watch and see what discussion happens.
This might work better than a set agenda of material and it might not but I thought I’d give it another go.
Lesson for the day - reduce, reuse, recycle.

I certainly think it is a bad sign when I count down the days of my school rounds. Normally this means I am doing it a bit tough. This time however it’s quite a good experience, the staff and kids are really friendly even if I feel a bit like the outsider I am.
Tomorrow I will be halfway through my round which is nice to know.
On that general topic I saw a job advertised which I think I’ll apply for a school on this side of the world. It’s not exactly what I am looking for and I am not a perfect match for it. But it’s close enough on both counts to be worth putting in an application and seeing what happens.
Lesson for the day - it helps to be really into something.

While planting with Finn he decided we needed a scarecrow so, as is the way, with such things, Nicky made one up from scraps about the place.
Lesson for the day - perhaps scarecrows are the last hold out to mass production.

The good thing about the approach we have been using with Finn is that he does eventually get to sleep and that I don’t get angry with him every single night.
The downside is that it wipes out either Nicky or my evening pretty much in total and that is very much wearing me down. I don’t have a lot of Uni or school work to do in the evening but I have some and after badgering Finn into staying in bed until 9pm I am exhasted and in no mood for any kind of work at all.
So tonight I am trying a new tactic inspired by something Nicky did recently which involved a choice between bed and sitting in the corner. Somehow these choices expanded to included pulling all the books off one shelf but I think he might actually be asleep now.
While this might be the same time he always finally sleeps I have had a chance to do some work and that’s not nothing.
Lesson for the day - when it comes to a toddler you don’t want to change too much but sometimes you pretty much have to try something new.

Sir, do you have to be a virgin to be a nun?
“It’s funny you should ask that. I am one of four children and before I was born my mother was a school teacher…”
Lesson for the day - they might have left field questions but I have a left field life.

They are saying 22 degrees tomorrow.
Anything over about seventeen is fine with me but over twenty feels like proper nice weather.
Lesson for the day - numbers matter to the mind as much as the skin and air.

Not all that long ago it seemed that quality drama was in movies and television shows were poorly made and disposable. But somewhere along the line things changed. The West Wing, Deadwood, ER, Six Feet Under, Carnivale, Buffy and Angel came along with many other quality shows.
During the same time quality films were still made but they seemed to become rare.
Now I am not complaining about this generous supply of quality storytelling at all. But sometimes I wish it would go away.
I am not trying to infer that Nicky is glued to the telly but she does appreciate and enjoy well made shows. This is all well and good but sometimes, just sometimes, I wish I was the most interesting thing in the room.
Lesson for the day - television is not always your friend when you are attention seeking and precious like me.

To way is this Finn. He’s just to little and round faced.
Lesson for the day - less than two years can be a long time for boys big and small.

I might be feeling generally grouchy but I am still quite pleased with the work I have done in the garden. All of the vision and some of the work belong to Nicky but all the same I am pleased to have helped bring about something I know will be so pretty.
Lesson for the day - I like it more when hard work results in a visible win.

I have no excuse or explantion. I continue to lead a comfy life and have no problems to speak of. But all the same I work up this morning quick to anger and just generally grouchy.
I didn’t have a broken night or a bad dream. I really have no idea where it came from. And I don’t like it much, I would far rather roll with the punches than the one tempted to start throwing them.
Hopefully tomorrow I will be back to my normal mildly crotchety self.
Lesson for the day - sometimes Mondays are the luck of the draw.
