The Stars Line Up

28 02 2007

In part I was all inspired and determined and in part I was just plain lucky. Either way session one I did one of my best lessons yet.

I threw myself at the remaining four sessions with the same gusto but they were much more like hard work for precious little return. All the same that first one was a keeper.

Lesson for the day - the wheel does turn (it can just be hard to know that when your head is spinning also).

The Rainbow Connection

28 02 2007

The rain woke me in the early hours and even in my sleepy state I felt glad for the rain. Glad because the garden and people generally need to water. And glad because it might give me an excuse not to walk the dogs this morning.

By the time I was out of bed the rain had stopped so the puppies did get their walk and we all got a little wet on the trip home as the rain came back with some vigour.

However the very best part was as I drove to work and looked due west at the end of our street. There was the most stunning and beatuiful rainbow I have seen in recent memory. It was like it has been painted in lush, vivid and glassy paint.

Lesson for the day - the lovers, the dreamers and the commuters.

Sleeping Alone

28 02 2007

There is an old maxin that if you want to get a woman into a bed you need to take Mark O’Meara out of the bed first.

Of late Nicky has been out of bed several times a night because she is too uncomfortable (being pregnant and all) and would rather be up and awake than lying in bed and all awake. Added to this she didn’t want to disturb me with tossing and turning, As it happens I am so tired at the moment I sleep through anything but I can understand her concerns.

So last night I slept in the spare bed. It wasn’t quite the same but I went out like a light and Nicky tells me she has a better night too.

Lesson for the day - togetherness is often the answer but not absolutely always.

Swings

27 02 2007

Yesterday I had a class just blindside me with really really good work. It was ot just one good student but four back to back excellent presentations.

And then in another class I had a kid bring it all to a standstill for the whole session.

Lesson for the day - I would like to win them all but will just have to settle for winning some of them.

Training Day

24 02 2007

Once again I tried to take Finn off for a trip to Science Works and once again he refused. Given how much he likes it when he is there I am quite certain he thinks I am talking about somewhere else.

Anyhow while we were having this discussion I mentioned that they had toy trains there. Finn took this as meaning we were going on a train trip so I changed ideas and we did that instead.

So we caught a train into the city, looked quickly at ACMI, had lunch a Old MacDonalds, looked at books in Borders, then caught another train home. It doesn’t sound like much but Finn was looking very tired on the train and once I suggested we have a cuddle he was asleep in seconds.

In a particularly charming end to the trip he called out quite a detailed thank you to the train as it left the station.

Lesson for the day - it seems trains really are a way of life.

Calm on the Brink

24 02 2007

Perhaps we had a few more things physically arranged just before Finn arrived. This time, however, I think we are much more ready mentally and emotionally.

I can understand how people with lots of kids forgot how exciting, scary and emotional the first birth is. This time I feel like I know pretty much how things will go and am much more prepared for any twists and turns.

All the same three years is a short time and I do remember just how massive this is the first time around.

Lesson for the day - it’s good to be clever, wise and terribly handsome.
