The City Life They Talk About in the 90s

August 9th, 2007

I was wondering this morning if we are far enough away from the 90s yet to have a sense of the decade that was. My initial sense was that you need a bit of distance to see how it was different to what came after it.

As a starting point I feel like 90s music was characterised by singer-songwriters with guitars and bands with dominant electrics guitars and plenty of distortion. This decade seems to be much more about beats and speaking but then I listen to so little new music I could be wrong.

What do people think?

Lesson for the day – perspective is more easily valued than attained.

For some reason I still think of 90s music as being the latest thing which of course it’s not. I guess this has something to do with the fact i was recently married and starting to raise kids – for some reason I felt I had little time to keep up with what was hapopening on the radio. I can’t think of what cargo pants are but I’m sure if I saw some I’d remember.
