Pie Makers. I went for ignorance to obsession with the space of one freshly cooked apple pie.
Lesson for the day - tasty and warm is good and good.
This is not meant to be comprehensive, rather a taster of Australian film history.
Lesson for the day - you know I am short of content or time when I just link to stuff I have produced for work.
I had hoped that this different week at school might be quite pleasant. However it is had been really unsettled as both students and staff have been on the ratty side of things.
I am actually looking forward to regular classes next week. It will be unsettled as kids adjust to school again and tell their stories but after that things might actually return to something that somehow slightly resembles a normal school week.
Lesson for the day - normal is an overused, misunderstood but highly valued state.
Keyboard kids losing art of handwriting
Note to self - dump pencil case
Lesson for the day - I wonder.
It’s not that I am slack but I do tend me be a bit forgetful at times. I toyed briefly with getting a cheap little Palm Pilot but the technology seemed like work so instead I blew $2 on a little black notebook.
Yesterday I was very diligent. When something happened that I needed to act on I wrote a quick note. Then, when I had a spare moment I tried to clear something from six pages of notes in the little book. It meant that I worked pretty constantly yesterday but it also meant that I knew I hadn’t missed some little task that might come back to bite me.
Lesson for the day - it’s can be a little work to be this vague.
This week many of the Year 10 students are at work experience and we only have about twenty five less. For me this means a doubly different week.
On one hand there remaining class is all kids I know but, once you put them in a room together, they have a different dynamic than any of the regular classes they came from. On the other I will be out today visiting some student on work experience which, with any luck, should be good fun.
Lesson for the day - a holiday would be better but the change is quite welcome.
Where did you meet?
In 1994 I went to work for Telecom in a call centre and there were more than one hundred of us there. Among this crowd of new faces I noticed Nicky on the first or second day although I didn’t get to speak to her for a while because she always had people talking to her and I couldn’t think of any suitable way to crash through this crowd. Finally I managed to come up with something vapid and we took it very slowly but surely from there.

At this stage I am ready to teach a short unit on the history of Australian film starting session two. With 35 minutes to go I am otherwise utterly unready to go.
Lesson for the day - go dog go!
Any one of these incidents that happened yesterday would have been enough to make it quite an interesting day. But there wasn’t one, there were probably six.
It wasn’t the worst day I’ve had at school but it certainly hit the top then with a bullet.
Lesson for the day - double hoorah for Saturday.
I want a road running through my memory
neat white lines and big clear signs saying
do not cross, they say
slow downI want a God who pays attention
sits in the sky and writes it down, and says
don’t cry now, he says
it’s not time

Lesson for the day - stay on track, stay on track.
