Blackwood: Post Implementation Review

January 11th, 2009

I am glad we went away camping and lots of things went well. We had snags and bread the first night and went out for dinner last night and both were tasty and just what the doctor ordered. Leila may have refused to have her daytime sleep but she did sleep through the night. And last we had the whole family together as well as Joanna for company which was just idea.

And while nothing went wrong I don’t know that I will be going back with the kids for a few years. The environment is really pretty but also quite dangerous. On every edge the caravan park had a dangerous slope down into either the rocky creek or blackberries. Neither fall would kill you but you would be pretty badly battered. For adults this risk is fine but we just had to spend every second watching the kids closely.

And the other thing that I found mildly annoying was that the local general store had only a small range of anything useful. If you wanted snags it was a twenty minute drive to Trentham. However if you wanted jam for nine bucks a jar or seven types of goats cheese then the general store was great. I guess campers are just not their target market.

Lesson for the day – I’m not sorry we went there, it was a really nice weekend, but I am really glad to be home.

Previously on this date..

I’m thinking that parks which advertise “boardwalk” style walks would offer intrepid explorers lots to look at but with much less chance of ending up with prickles in their bums.

It was a lovely trip, and there is no place like home :)
